Form 4 Switchboard Design Details

Picture
All Mertech's CVA Switchboards include tested components and are designed according to electrical, mechanical and communication consistency rules and comply with EN BS 61439-2 to ensure complete confidence.
The products express this consistency by their overall design and shared ergonomics.

Electrical consistency:
Each product complies with or enhances system performance at coordination level: breaking capacity, Isc, temperature rise, etc. for more safety, continuity of supply (discrimination) or economic optimisation (cascading).
The leading edge technologies employed in Mertech’s Guiding System ensure high performance levels in discrimination and cascading of protection devices, electrodynamic withstand of switches and current distributors, heat loss of devices, distribution blocks and enclosures.
Likewise, inter-product ElectroMagnetic Compatibilty (EMC) is guaranteed.

Mechanical consistency:
Each product adopts dimensional standards simplifying and optimising its use within the system.
It shares the same accessories and auxiliaries and complies with global ergonomic choices (utilisation mode, operating mode, setting and configuration devices, tools, etc.) making its installation and operation within the system a simpler process.

Forms of Separation:
It is laid down in the IEC 61439 specification that switchboards can be offered with differing types of protection. These are defined as Forms and they range from Form 1 which is a open board to Form 4 which is a highly shrouded board. The Mertech boards offer all these differing forms but we have found that most consultants and engineers chooses variations of Form 3 and 4, as these are the safest.
As the actual specification requires the final definition to be agreed between the customer and the manufacturer, it is best to talk to us at the time.
The Mertech  Combined Verified Assemblies  (CVA) can be used for all types of low-voltage distribution switchboards (main, sub-distribution and final) up to 6000 A, in commercial and industrial environments.

A metal structure
The switchboard is made up of one or more fully welded sections combined side-by-side or back-to-back, on which a complete selection of cover panels and doors can are mounted.

A distribution system
Horizontal busbars or vertical busbars positioned in a lateral compartment or at the rear of the cubicle are used to distribute electricity throughout the switchboard.

Complete functional units
Each device is part of a functional unit comprising:
·  a dedicated mounting plate for device installation
·  fabricated busbar connections
Each functional unit contributes to a function in the switchboard.
The functional units are compartmentalised and are arranged rationally, in a tiers one on top of another, within the enclosure.
The system includes everything required for functional unit mounting, supply and onsite connection.
The components of the system and those of the functional units in particular have been designed and tested taking into account device characteristics.
This design approach ensures a high degree of flexibility and reliability in system operation and
optimum safety for personnel.

A dependable electrical installation
The total compatibility of the devices within the Mertech system is a key advantage in ensuring a high level of installation dependability.
System design has been validated by type tests , calculation or design rules as per standard IEC 61439-1 and benefits from the combined experience of Mertech customers over many years.

An upgradeable electrical installation
Maintenance operations, carried out with the switchboard de-energised, are fast and straight-forward due to easy access to devices.

Total safety for personnel
Work in a switchboard must be carried out by authorised persons in compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
To increase the safety of personnel, devices are installed behind protective front plates; only the operating handles are accessible. Additional internal protection (partitions, barriers) is available to create form 2, 3 or 4 separation to protect against direct contacts with live parts.

Electrical switchboards built using the Mertech CVA functional system and component manufacturer recommendations fully comply with international standard IEC 61439-1.
MERTECH
Mertech manufacture a complete range of switchgear, from wall mounted dist boards all the way up to 65kA fault rated systems with busbars up to 3200 Amps. Switchboards comply with IEC 61439 part 2.
